FACT SHEET

8 September 2019
BARLEYLANDS FARM

Aim

• As with previous years, the aim of the 2019 Fun Walk is to raise money for charities and good causes (projects), in what will be a family-fun afternoon.
• In 2018, the Fun Walk raised £100,000 for local Charites and good causes - bringing the total raised to £1,064,000 since the Fun Walk's inception in 2002.
• Many projects now see the annual Fun Walk as their main fundraising event of the year. Partly because of its growing popularity, the Fun Walk became a registered charity in 2013 and is now known as The Fun Walk Trust (Charity no. 1151626).

Organisation

• Due to the Fun Walk’s continued growth, John Baron MP and his The Fun Walk Committee have invited Basildon, Billericay & Wickford Council for Voluntary Services [BBWCVS} to organise the event, including all paperwork, which leaves projects free to focus on fundraising. However, stall holders will need to ensure they have their own Public Liability Insurance. There is music and a large display of stalls - the objective being to raise awareness as well as money.
• There are two walks to choose from - both within Barleylands Farm. One is suitable for families, toddlers and the disabled [but wheelchairs and buggies may find it difficult as the farmland is uneven]. Our thanks go to Barleylands Farm for hosting the event.
• The event starts at 12pm. There is then a photoshoot to thank our bonus pot sponsors at 12.45pm, with the walk then starting at 1pm. Finish time is around 2.00pm.
• Participating projects raise money through their own sponsorship efforts in the run-up to the walk. Sponsorship forms are supplied.

Bonus Pot

• Because of the generosity of businesses and other sponsors, each project receives a bonus on a pro rata basis depending on, and in addition to, what they raise themselves on the day. In 2018, for every £100 raised by projects in sponsorship from the Fun Walk, the bonus pot added a further £65
• The 'bonus pot' sponsors have been instrumental to the success of the walk. In 2018 they were Swan Housing Association, c2c Rail, Hallmark Care Homes, Abellio Greater Anglia, Tunnelcraft Ltd, Brown & Carroll Ltd, McDonald’s Basildon, Leonardo MW Ltd, RSE Building Services Ltd, and others.
• To qualify, projects must collect their bonuses at a brief presentation ceremony after the event on 22nd November 2019 @ 6.00pmwhich also allows all to thank our bonus pot sponsors, Barleylands Farm and Hallmark Care Homes [for hosting the evening].
